Interestingly, my *perception* (not backed up with any analysis) is
that there's *more* spam on weekends.
And I'd speculate that the spammers use their hijacked mail servers
then so the legitimate weekday users don't notice. Then again, maybe
that's just because there's less "real" email during the weekend and
it just *feels* like there's more spam.

That's my guess too. In my collection of spam for January I have
email dated everywhere from 31 December 1969 through to 1 January
2020!
