[LINK] Acrobat phone home?

Linkers,
Wondering if anyone else had noticed this ... a while back, I took the
upgrade to Acrobat Reader 6.0. It's appallingly slow, and the interface is
like a lollipop (I hate being patronised by computers!) but it works.
Except this: even after it's shut down, it sometimes leaves a process in the
Windows tasklist. One problem with this is that it impacts other
applications (for example AbiWord HATES running when Acrobat is running,
heaven knows why). And that background process is trying to "ring home".
It's contacting 192.150.20.33 on port 80, and if I say "no", it tries again
in 60 seconds' time. The address is Adobe's. Locally, port 1174 is open and
listening - even though you would think you'd shut down Acrobat. Every
minute, it's opening a new outbound TCP link (local port number 1287).
This is way beyond what is, in my mind, acceptable in "auto update"
behaviour, because it's going on >after< I've shut the horrible application
down. Not only that, but in "preferences" I have supposedly selected manual,
not automatic update.
Anyone else seen this?
