>Yes, but ARIA doesn't count DVD music as sales decline; it's a line item on
>the statistics - grew by ?120%? last year. It's just the one line item, CD
>singles, that is the problem.
Who in their right mind buys CD singles? Unless they are going to rip the
CD and put it on a complication CDR or MP3 player. Honestly. The
Association has lost the plot and the Publishers are far from reality.
>I'm even happy to accept that downloading may be the death of singles.
And thank goodness. It should be. IN fact the record companies should put
HALF the song on a download and tell you to buy the LP!
Face it, only about 4-6 songs ever are any good of an LP, but it's cheaper
to buy than the CD singles :)
>But it seems from the most recent statistics available - and borne out by UK
>data which is more recent - that the users' behaviour is to buy albums if
>they like the singles...
They buy the albums if A song is promoted on TV or radio frequent enough :)
>Hang on. Has anyone correlated download hits against album hits? Do the
>names recur?
I haven't, but I've been quite involved the last six months in marketing
music against video music.
