I think MX is inverting cause-and-effect. The action was launched to try and
get the company out of financial trouble ...
SCO's problems began years ago, when it abandoned its traditional market. I
had long conversations with its Au country manager of the time, Steve
McWhirter (now with IBM in the software division). It decided that being a
"small business Unix" wasn't classy enough; the stock market analysts kept
saying "where are the enterprise customers?"
So it did what the analysts said instead of what the customers said, and got
into trouble. Then the suit-lawyers moved in with a plan to Save the World
by Pissing on Everyone...
