This could be easily implemented with the Microsoft 'TCB' development
underway [Palladium]. Remember they are also proposing a change
to the Hardware spec. forcing users to purchase 'secure'
hardware [interface specs secret]. Meant to control Digital Rights
Management. Seems like the 'Clipper Chip' reinvented.
1. Every system would require registration by Redmond - to generate a
verifyable Digital Signature, countersignd by Redmond, created by 'secure
hardware' and therefore 'tamper proof'. [Spot the logic error].
2. Every message sent gets Digitally signed by these unique certificates.
3. You only accept Digitally signed & verified messages.
3a. OR, All messages go via a Redmond gateway that verifies all
signatures, and possibly strips & reports 'dangerous' or illegal
attachments.
4. Your system would only allow executables from 'Trusted Parties' -
i.e. Redmond. For 'Security Reasons', they could automatically distribute
patches/service-packs/upgrades AND have the system automatically apply
them.
Redmond _do_ own the software and can do what they like with
it. You only have a licence to run it - and have to accept whatever
licence they put before you, such as 'we can delete, change, add, upgrade
any of our system at any time, and unilaterally without notice remove any
'illegal' or 'unauthorised' files we find on your system.
This is in-line with their announcements with the RIAA, MPP and whoever.
5. Of course, it would NEVER go wrong, nor could ever be comprimised or
spoofed. And, as now, the software would be supplied 'AS IS', without
warranty or right of recourse.
