The stuff we're hosting - www.greens.org.au - is hosted on debian linux,
under a vserver setup (ie. greens.org.au is hosted on a separate virtual
server to much of our other hosting - that's just a standard service we
provide for various types of hosting). The switch to plone happened,
um, last week - Tuesday, I think. Prior to that, it was php and static
stuff.
Other servers may be running on other things - that whole "we're not a
single organisation across the whole country" thing ;) Greens content
is often served off multiple servers through the central site, not all
of which we host.
The Greens are actually a good example we now use for explaining the
benefits of plone - the organisational structure suits plone nicely,
allowing people to manage their own content, and providing neat stuff
like calendars, search features, news, polls, etc.
