There's an article in latest print issue (May-Jun) of Image and Data
Manager on the storage longevity issue. It starts off saying a recent
study in Holland indicated many CD-R disks are unreadable after 2 (two!)
years. Opinions offered from a variety of people on both sides of the
fence - and not surprisingly reps of companies doing microfilming say CD
and/or DVD storage is unproven and reps of some orgs which have put huge
amounts of data onto DVD or CD say its very reliable (WA Dept Land
Information, eg, recently moved over 8 million files onto DVD and they
expect to refresh every 10 yrs). Interesting read but article isn't
online anywhere so far as I can see.
