Just bringing these forthcoming workshops to your attention.

National Information and Library Service (NILS) is running Web and Online
Accessibility Workshops in:
# Canberra on 30th and 31st of March 2004
# Sydney on 7th April 2004
# Melbourne on 22nd April 2004
(NILS is a joint venture of Vision Australia Foundation, Royal Blind
Society of NSW and the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind).

Details and registration forms are linked by date at:
http://www.visionaustralia.org.au/webaccessibility/workshops/

These full-day workshops are targeted at web-development team leaders,
corporate communications professionals and business managers, along with
content authors, web programmers and designers and web contract managers.

The workshops provide a thorough overview of accessibility issues and how
to address them along with an in-depth review of the World Wide Web
Consortium's Content Accessibility Guidelines and their implementation and
a consideration of assessment tools and techniques. The issues confronting
users with particular needs will be explored, including people from people
with disabilities and older people. The workshop will also look at issues
particularly relevant to people in regional and rural Australia and how
these overlap with issues that are important for other people with
particular information needs.

Participants will be able to see and hear how different sites appear to
people using assistive technology, and relevant international guidelines
will be distributed. There will be an opportunity to discuss the particular
concerns and challenges government, education and business has in achieving
a high level of accessibility.

The morning session provides the broad overview, concentrating on the whys
and wherefores of web accessibility and access for rural Australia, and
demonstrating the issues and solutions. The afternoon session provides an
in-depth look at particular accessibility issues, with an emphasis on
techniques and assessment tools.

We offer these workshops around Australia. If you are interested in future
workshops, the program is available at:
