My daughter (2nd year B.Sci at Melbourne) can't access the lectures in an
AV format, but the lecture notes are available. I wonder if Arts students
are better or worse off for having online audiovisual access - and I wonder
if anyone's checking on academic outcomes?
Having lecture notes online is better than queueing up for hardcopies (not
to mention cheaper for the Uni), but my own experience is that writing my
own notes helps to embed the information in memory; helps my doodling
skills too!
She does tell tales of some lecturers' presentation style (mumbling while
facing the blackboard) and the very ordinary physical setup in some lecture
theatres. I've attended 3 unis in Melbourne and they each have had poor
lecture facilities (and good too, I must admit).

Hi all ..
Was talking with one of my team members today, (I employ
15 junior females in my cafe) who is doing first year arts/law
at the University of Melbourne.
She tells me that *all* of her arts lectures at Melbourne uni are
digitally recorded, (vision and sound), and are available online
to students enrolled in each subject.
In addition, her lecturer's lecture notes are also available online.
Apparently there's no real reason to turn up to lectures at all really.
Sigh ... it wasn't like that in my day :-)
Cheers all ..
