Globally nuclear power stations would be producing in the range of
thousands of tons of material which need to be put safely someplace for
tens of thousands of years if not hundreds. Fossil fuels however are
dumping 7 trillion tons pa into the atmosphere and the carbon needs to
be held for geologically significant times scales - at least millions
of years. If we can't do the first I'm amazed to think that people
could think we could do the second.
