Special Minister of State, Senator Eric Abetz, today launched a fully
documented open source content management system, demonstrating the
viability of open source software solutions in the Australian
Government.
A week after launching the groundbreaking "Guide to Open Source Software
for Australian Government Agencies" Senator Abetz has announced that a
fully documented open source content management system is now available
to Government agencies and not-for-profit groups at no upfront cost.
"The Government is committed to greater sharing and re-use of
technology, to get greater value for money from its IT investment," the
Minister said.
Through a practice known as 'whitebranding', the Department of Finance
and Administration's Australian Government Information Management Office
(AGIMO), working with Australian software company squiz.net Pty Ltd, has
made a version of the open source MySource Matrix content management
system available to Government agencies and not-for-profit groups.
"The whitebranded MySource Matrix content management system is a robust
and flexible software platform," the Minister said. "It is a fine
example of the potential of software re-use in government.
"Today I am releasing the supporting documentation published by the
Department, which is a complete 'how to' guide for any agency or
not-for-profit group interested in using this content management system
for their websites."
The documentation includes an implementation guide, an independent
assessment of the software, results of functional testing and an
implementation case study. The documentation and links to software
download sites are available on the SourceIT website at
www.sourceit.gov.au.
