The Parliamentary Library automatically captures and indexes closed
captions for Australian TV news and current affairs. We do, of course,
have special privileges under the Copyright Act for Senators and
Members, which allow us to do this. This process is part of a much
bigger system that allows Senators and Members to find and view TV and
radio items on their desktops (Parliament House and electorate offices).
The system was implemented last year. I presented a paper on the system
at Information Online last Wednesday -
http://conferences.alia.org.au/online2005/. I believe the paper will be
posted to the site shortly.
Regards,
Catherine
