I think you are far from alone in this one.  I think the problem is more
the fact that the banks should be publicising the problem to their
customers more.

In most cases, when a mug gets a phishing scam from a bank that s/he has
never dealt with, you would hope that they would become just a tad
suspicious; suspicious enough to make them think about a scam coming
from a bank with which they do do business.

...but I guess there's a mug born every minute...
