I, also, found the references more funny than anything else ... compare
the front-page hype:
"a business search engine that maps >>all of the available corporate and
human capital information<< on the Internet to deliver in-depth profiles
on 24 million business people and 2 million companies." (My emphasis)
Well; the profile is from an employer which no longer employs me, the
Website isn't the right one and is stagnant, "all the available
information"? - kidding, right?
It's the old game of "social coercion" dressed up as social networking.
If you want the profile to be correct, you've got to "play the game" -
sign on, join up, agree to the terms and conditions, succumb to the peer
pressure of people sending you e-mails saying "but if you join, you can
correct the profile", and so on.
I know I'm going to get kicked for this: but social networking sites are
essentially juvenile in their conception and application. Regardless of
the aim, the outcome is to form a peer group which plays on "fear of
exclusion" - "If I don't join I'll be on the outside, I might miss out
on something!"
Well, I guess I won't get any head-hunters phoning me to offer me jobs
based on my Eliyon profile...
