If you start off saying that unfettered markets are good then you must
accept an unequal distribution of wealth. On the other hand if you
start up saying that an equitable distribution of wealth is good then
it follows that unfettered markets are bad.

Experiments in ecomomic psychology over the last few years suggest that
we have evolved with an inate sense of fairness which often conflicts
with our own self interest.
