dunno. IMO, open source is an inherently socialist phenomenon - it
exemplifies the ideal "from each according to his abilities, to each
according to his needs".
which is probably why Vic finds it so offensive - it's socialist, it
works, and it provides obvious benefits to anyone and everyone. worse,
by removing the inefficiency of profit, it highlights the fact that
profit actually IS an inefficiency....which is blasphemy to one of Vic's
religious leanings. profit is something you're just supposed to take for
granted, and ignore the effect it has on production AND value.
of course, i'm using the actual, sensible, definition of the word
socialism as used by the majority of the world, rather than the loony
american propaganda definition.
