[LINK] Turnbull wants all aussies to have email address

Apart from any technical problems my real world experience tells me  
people simply won't use such email addresses (apart from all the  
problems of whole sections of the population not being online!)

At my uni all students have an email address in the form of  
firstname.surname at students.latrobe.edu.au. The idea is that it  
provides one obvious address to which email notifications can be sent  
- the Turnbull concept.

The address requires web access through an interface almost identical  
to Hotmail, but very few students ever check this email account, and  
cannot be convinced to do so.

They prefer to use their hotmail account (possibly for reasons to do  
with a degree of anonymity? Who knows)
