So perhaps it was not a good idea for me agree to give the following talk? ;-)
Podcasting for Network Centric Warfare
Defence and Security Applications Research Centre, UNSW, Canberra, 12
noon, 21 August 2006.
Lecture Theatre 3, Building 32, at the Australian Defence Force
Academy, Northcott Drive, Canberra.
Podcasting is the distribution of media files using web based
syndication to handheld devices. This presentation outlines how
podcasting works and could be used in Network Centric Warfare. The
possible use of podcasting with the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter,
Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning & Control aircraft and Landing
Helicopter Dock Ship will be discussed.
Linkers are welcome, it is free, just turn up. Comments and
suggestions welcome as usual. The Defence Department came to ANU and
asked what to do with the Joint Strike Fighter
<http://www.tomw.net.au/technology/it/jsf/>. This is part of my contribution.
ps: My ideal commercial enterprise IT system would look like a
military command and control one. The senior managers would be
sitting in a room like the bridge of the starship enterprise, with
lots of data flashing up on screens.
The CFO would look at their screen and shout "earnings downgrade
detected on the starboard seaboard!". The CEO in would press a button
on their command chair and calmly say "Accelerate web advertising by
50 points. All hands, brace for advertising campaign! Fulfillment
staff to your stations!".
Of course real command and control centers are lot more boring,
ad-hoc and messy looking than on TV.
