Moving off topic a little;
I settled a 13 grand car loan with St george in lump sum payout.
They sent me a letter confirming this, it has a signature on it but no
name. There is no way for me to determine the name of the person within
the organisation, and I'm not so certain that a clerk or teller at
StGeorge or another institution will be able to scan the signature and
check it against some kind of database, so it seems that the letter
carries nothing to authenticate it at all. The payment was online so
the receipt is basically a HTML file with a serial number. The receipt
itself is not signed, just received during an SSL session. St George
can deny the whole thin and I'm out of luck unless my bank supplies some
useful evidence to back my story.
Is this common practice now? Does it matter?
