We found that Tiger updated OK, Panther didn't and needed manually patching.
And the Panther machine still showed the desktop clock problem you describe
-- but only for the digital clock in the menu back. If the clock is set to
show in a separate window (analog or digital), or you choose the analog
clock in the menu bar (so small as to be almost unreadable), it displays OK.
