A friend of mine has a brother in country NSW that recently got an
engin account. He decided to get his own engin account but instead
of buying a locked-in box he bought a voice router that wasn't locked
in. http://www.warcom.com.au/shop/flypage/voip/1215

He had to program it himself but he ended up with a system that
allowed him to program how calls went out from his house. Calls to
some local numbers go direct to his current phone line (they're
free), calls to anywhere in Australia go through engin and he can
block 1900 calls himself which his phone company would charge a few
dollars a month to do. Incoming calls can come in via his landline
or engin account.

Pretty good to take back some of the control and ridiculous charges
from phone companies.
