Yes. Which is why, these days, I'm using a second hand P4 1.6 with 500MB RAM that I bought for $180, with a magnificent Sony 21" Trinitron monitor that I bought 2nd hand for $250 (and I challenge you to find a nicer one). I've had more than my money's worth from them.

It's a good thing I'm not an avid gamer. ;-)

Have to disagree there, Richard. As a basic user with straightforward needs I've found the current crop to be far better than just better at the inconsequential margins. Barring, of course, my horrors with Canon equipment. Speaking of which - thank you all for all your suggestions. I've followed them up and unfortunately none have resulted in a fix. It looks as if I'm going to have to shell out US$35 for commercial drivers. I don't mind paying for things, but I do mind paying for something that the manufacturer should have included in the price of the product.
