The March 2007 APC magazine comes with a bootable Knoppix 5.1 disk,
including Kaffeine/Xine. Simplest way to do base level cross platform
testing.
Decoding proprietary licensed formats is an issue for Open Source
software. Sometimes, the license is in the hardware or it is a blackbox
such as the aforementioned settop boxes and DVD players, in relation to
MPEG2. Ofcourse as most PCs come with Windows, we are all paying for the
licenses anyway....
From what I can tell, from that weird Telstra Advertisement (bloke
takes his dog for a walk to letterbox) even Telstra has abandoned video
on demand and distributes DVDs. But I may have misunderstood the
Advertisement.
