The March 2007 APC magazine comes with a bootable Knoppix 5.1 disk, 
including Kaffeine/Xine. Simplest way to do base level cross platform

Decoding proprietary licensed formats is an issue for Open Source 
software. Sometimes, the license is in the hardware or it is a blackbox 
such as the aforementioned settop boxes and DVD players, in relation to 
MPEG2. Ofcourse as most PCs come with Windows, we are all paying for the 
licenses anyway....

 From what I can tell, from that weird Telstra Advertisement (bloke 
takes his dog for a walk to letterbox) even Telstra has abandoned video 
on demand and distributes DVDs. But I may have misunderstood the 
Advertisement.
