A disturbing article in the NYT about a company in the US selling
categorised personal information for elderly to known scam artists:

In recent years, despite the creation of a national "do not call"
registry, the legitimate telemarketing industry has grown, according
to the

Marketing Association. Callers pitching insurance plans,
subscriptions and precooked meals collected more than $177 billion in
2006, an increase of $4.5 billion since the federal do-not-call
