I think this is a fair point. One thing that one's own eyes and volition
do provide is the dynamic and the "now" view of the street scape. Things
change and they can change quickly. (Hey, where'd that building go?)
But it is also reasonable to say that the facility to derive a navigable
street level view of an area not readily accessible during a lunch time
walk is impressive for most people, especially when integrated with the
map and terrain overlays.
Anyway, the street scape view is only another overlay facility like the
map and terrain views. They are all equally subject to becoming dated,
but people use these references knowing that a degradation in detail
happens and as long as they are fit for purpose then it's not too much of
a problem. Even if the purpose is the "Wow, look what you can do on
It will certainly be interesting to watch the information updating cycle
that is employed now that Google has donned this yoke universal image
delivery. Do they do wholesale sweeps every so often, or "patches" as
known changes are identified, for example.
