I was wondering how they plan to do that, too, given the number of
shops that change over time at the 'small business' level. Houses
aren't much of a problem, but businesses will require a bit more
updating. It's not just the architecture, but the meaning engendered
in the images that will have value and accuracy is important.
I also ran into another spin-off, embedding google maps in other
information sources. This one was a story in The Age today about a
light plane that crashed into a house in Oregon. I usually have
google scripts turned off, and had turned them on for this google
maps thing. Then I clicked the story in the Age and all this Google
stuff started loading -- data bloat! I quickly turned it off and then
had to wait for the new version of the page without google to load.
It was a bit of a pain. But it's also a way to use up data quotas
quite easily without needing to and without even knowing it's going to load.
I wonder how long it will be before other information servers will
incorporate images of the homes of people or locations discussed in
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
