> Digital communities are becoming more common as the Internet becomes pervasive in day-to-day life. The rise in digital communities also raises a number of ethical issues related to privacy, monitoring, data protection, and more. An ascendant information society providing a range of e-services (such as eHealth, eGovernment, etc.) means that these challenges will become increasingly critical in both the design of software systems and the digital communities they serve.
>
> A panel of expert guest editors (Awais Rashid, John Weckert and Richard Lucas) is soliciting papers on all topics ranging from field studies of software systems operating in ethically challenging contexts to methodologies, processes, and codes of conduct. Computer encourages articles that offer a multi-disciplinary point of view on the challenges to existing software engineering practices that stem from current issues in social science, psychology, and criminology. Submissions on any topic related to software engineering ethics in a digital world are welcome. Topics of interest include but are not limited to:
>
> * Ethical Challenges for Engineering Next Generation Software Systems
> * Practice and Policy Implications of Ethics
> * Software Engineering in Societal Contexts
> * Ethical Aspects of Digital Communities
> * Involvement of and accountability to stakeholders' ethical standpoints during software design
> * Ethics regulation in software engineering
> * Codes of ethics and conduct
>
> Direct inquiries to guest editors Awais Rashid, John Weckert, and Richard Lucas at se-ethics-ieee at comp.lancs.ac.uk. Paper submissions are due by 1 January 2009. Complete submission instructions are available at www.computer.org/portal/pages/computer/content/author.html. More details on the special issue are available at: http://www.comp.lancs.ac.uk/isis/ieee.htm.
