Thanks - that's getting closer. However it doesn't mention uniforms, and
"standards of dress" is quite different to "specific dress". For
example, it is reasonable to stipulate safe clothing (e.g. sunsafe),
decent clothing, (for example, no rude t-shirts) and appropriate
clothing (e.g., sporting uniforms, or warm clothing in winter).
I found an interesting document from the Queensland Ombudsman that quite
neatly demolished any link between "standards" and "uniforms" - the
general arguments apply universally of course, but there may be State
legislation covering uniforms (not that I can find it).
I still can't quite find a link to *uniform* clothing.
The interesting thing is that it doesn't seem to have been tested. Which
is either testament to the fact that there *is* legislation, or
testament to the sensibleness of Australian schools and parents.
Interesting idea about school uniforms being covered under employee
uniform legislation! I suspect that wouldn't fly, but have (yet again)
nothing concrete to support the idea (pro or con).
