Yes, dimming is a significant effect, and, guess what, it is included in atmospheric models. Dimming is thought - by actual climate scientists - to have masked global warming earlier on, but CO2 has overtaken it. It's an ongoing active area of research. It wasn't discovered by a TV program or a bunch of anti-GW zealots.
But no, that's not it. The period in question has more to do with the El Niño cycle effect. It was a simple case of cherry picking data points.
