51 execs * $0.3M * 5 years = $76 million = 0.3% of project cost.
However you jiggle the numbers - it's still not a lot, assuming that
these guys can actually make good decisions.  

It may be excessive, but it's not an NBN problem: the executive class
everywhere have worked out that they can get this sort of money (or a
lot more) working for companies that control huge amounts of resources.
The NBN is probably paying market rates.  Personally, I'd like to see a
much flatter income curve for a variety of social reasons but that's how
the world works.  At least it's worse in the US :)

I'm always amused when they say less than politician X earns.  They are
paid peanuts at the top end.  The PM earn less than a mid-level exec for
a way tougher job.  We should be paying for the smartest suitable person
in Australia.  You'd have to be already set up financially, corrupt,
weird and/or stupid to enter politics.
