Tangentially related:

When the Swiss were revamping the Zurich tram system, they did extensive
research, basically to answer the question "how long would you be
prepared to wait if knew a tram was coming, but didn't know when". The
answer they got was "about ten minutes". So now, wherever there is a
tram stop in Zurich, there WILL be a tram coming past inside ten minutes
and thus on average within five minutes during normal running hours. The
gaps are bigger later in the evenings though, and the trams stop running
between about midnight and 6 am.

As a result, people rarely consult timetables during the day, they just
rock up to a tram stop and wait. And the tram system is extremely
well-patronised.

Regards, K.
