I'd like to note that in Telstra's apology they jumped up and down
about how they were sanitising parameters in URLs (search terms,
logins etc.) so "why do you have make such a big deal about it, huh?":

Well in practice it didn't actually work all the time so they were in
fact collecting logins and search terms:
