I hear both meanings (to send and to sell) for "salim", but in New Ireland,
I haven't heard "selim" for "to sell".

I thought 'salim' means 'to send'? as in 'salim pas' - to send a letter

Maybe 'selim'?- although that also means 'to sail'.
But according to my notes when I was first learning TP - 'baim' could
either mean 'to sell' or 'to buy' as it is more appropriately translated as
'to transact'.
