Could the etymology for "bel" be from PPE?
Bislama: bel
Broken: beli
Solomon Islands: bele
There is now a separate entry for "dotiwara", but there is still an
entry under "doti" for "doti wara". The meanings given under the
entries are different. Shouldn't these be linked up or consolidated?
Under "kalakala", there is a question for whether there is such a
word in Bislama. Crowley (1995: 108) lists kalakala with this
meaning.
Under "kokoros", there is a question for whether there is such a word
in Bislama. Crowley (1995: 107) lists kakros with this meaning.
Example of the noun form of helpim (from Wantok Stori Tumbuna):
"Meri i pilim pen nogut tru tasol nogat helpim i stap klostu long em."
As an alternate to "mak bilong lek" for footprint, Smith (2002: 110)
lists "lek mak".
I suggest adding a link between "skin" the other skin entries:
"retskin", "blakskin", "waitskin".
Additional meanings for retskin:
1) Among North Solomon Islanders, one who is from elsewhere in PNG
(Oliver, 1991: 223).
2) Someone from Morobe Province wrote this in a Stori Tumbuna in
Wantok, "Nau ol i stap long lain ol i kolim ol apkas (retskin)." Has
anyone else heard of retskin meaning mixed-race?
