Dear colleague

firstly, please accept our apologies for not getting back to you
sooner - it has taken longer to organise the trial than we
expected.

If you have offered to host a myna trap or make backyard or transect
counts of mynas - please accept our thanks for your offer. It is
only with the help of people such as yourself that we are able to
carry out such an ambitious trial.

Suburbs in which we will trap mynas have been selected and we will
commence trapping in another three weeks. At this stage, in
order to minimise potential bias in the results, we are not making it
widely known exactly where we plan to trap.

If your backyard has been selected for trapping, we will
contact you individually within the next ten days.

Irrespective of whether we contact you about hosting a trap, if you
are also willing to monitor mynas by backyard counts or by transects,
please start counting them now - at least once a week for the next
three weeks. Some people have already sent in counts, for which
we thank you - please keep them coming.

Instructions for counting mynas and submitting counts online are
provided on the web site
http://sres.anu.edu.au/associated/myna/index.html. Please do not send
myna counts to this email address. Our capacity to process
individual correspondence is very limited - over 400 people have
registered interest in involvement in this trial.

If you are not contacted about hosting a trap in this round,
please remember, firstly, that counting of mynas before and after
trapping is just as important to the success of the trial as the
trapping itself - and, secondly, that we plan another round of
trapping - in different locations - later in the year.

The web site will be updated as soon as we have results from the
autumn/winter part of the trial.

with best wishes
