Subject: Brij's farewell, 3pm, Friday 26th February, Coombs Tea Room, Coombs Building, Fellows Road, ANU

Dear Everyone,

As you all know, our friend and colleague Professor Brij V. Lal is retiring.

Many of you will have already have heard of his farewell, so if you have received an earlier email on the subject, never mind!

We are saying goodbye (and also launching Brij's most recent book: an historical dictionary of Fiji that Chris Gregory will baptise) from 3pm on Friday, 26th February, Coombs Tea Room, Coombs Building, Fellows Road, ANU.

Brij would be delighted to see you, if you can make it, at this historic event!!!

I know some of you will be away, others are sending messages (to vicki.luker at anu.edu.au<mailto:vicki.luker at anu.edu.au>) , but everyone is warmly welcome! Please pass this invitation on to anyone you think might need to know.

If you are around the ANU and would like to sign a card and/or make a donation towards gift and catering, please drop in to see Nic Halter (nicholas.halter at anu.edu.au<mailto:nicholas.halter at anu.edu.au>) in Coombs 5121 before COB Thursday 25th February. Nic is working for the State, Society and Governance in Melanesia Program and expects to be in during office hours.

But if you would like to sign the card and/or make a donation on the day, that will be fine too.

As for food and catering: a few of us will be providing refreshment, but if you would like to bring something to drink or something to eat (finger food would work best), please do so!

This is a proper and heartfelt farewell, but an unofficial occasion - so if, like me, you were unable to get to Brij's 'extinguished lecture' at the end of last year, all is not lost (except, of course, all too soon, Brij himself!)!

By the way, could you let me know, if you haven't done so already, whether you plan to come? Among other things, that will help us set up the room...

Best Wishes,

Vicki
