This seminar explores the use of Photovoice and other participatory visual methods within an action research project with women subsistence farmers in Papua New Guinea. Dr Mikhailovich will share her insights on using visual methods in the Melanesian context
and their pedagogical potential with low literacy young adult women learners. The seminar will explore adaptations of Photovoice, its limitations and challenges as a research tool, drawing attention to ethical issues, logistical hurdles and dynamics of power.
The seminar also explores the benefits of participatory photography and its potential for increasing participant engagement, empowerment and fostering women’s agency and learning.
