<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; "><span style="font-size: 12pt; ">This seminar will be based and conducted on the traditional Moanan-Tongan principle of<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><em>Talanoa</em>. It examines the formation
and development of Lo’au University (LU) as the first full online higher learning system in the Kingdom of Tonga and among the Moanan (Pacific Island) countries since January 2014. The discussion consists of three parts. The first discusses and highlights
the reasons behind the formation of LU as an online higher learning system. The materialization of the vision of His Majesty King Tupou V on the advancement of education in cyberspace was one reason. The second part deals with the core curriculum and educational
programs of LU. We have developed our degrees in the light of the notion of ‘proficiency’, that is, students must be proficient, efficient and wise in learning, discussing and applying knowledge. The last part explains the philosophy of LU, based on ‘Education
for Thinking’, and the motto, ‘Omnipresence-in-Ma’ananga’. Education for Thinking is an extension of the classical Western concept of ‘Education for Knowledge’ and the motto is a direct Tongan translation of the proverb, ‘<em>Toka-‘i-Ma’ananga’</em>. It is
a ’worldview to life’ that was used only for the<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><em>Ha’a<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></em>Lo’au, ‘Lo’au Lineage’, in ancient Tongan society. In conclusion, the discussion reflects on the importance
of merging the Western philosophy of education and the Lo’auan and Tongan-Moanan worldview to life.</span></div>

<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; line-height: 12pt; ">Siosiua Lafitani gained his BA from ‘Atenisi University in Tonga and his PhD from the Australian Catholic University on the relationship between Graeco-Roman and Tongan forms of obligation.
Resident in both Canberra and Tonga, he is now Dean of Lo’au University, which was formed in 2013 by former graduates of ‘Atenisi and which promotes a Moanan-Tongan philosophy and approach to research. A public intellectual in Tonga, where he is a regular
radio speaker, Professor Lafitani is a committed advocate of Pacific community groups in Tonga and Australia.</div>
