</span></b><span lang="EN-GB" style="color:black">The climate for Pacific island recordkeeping is extremely harsh and the stakes are rising at an alarming rate. Unforgiving tropical conditions, limited public awareness of collections, technology escalation
and other factors can combine to grind Pacific archives to a halt. In this environment, professional associations and collaboration are crucial to ensuring the successful preservation and promotion of Pacific Island recorded heritage. Using the National Archives
of Fiji (NAF) as a case study, we will examine the value of these networks and discuss the projects and steps that have generated some momentum for NAF to connect with the public on a larger scale; examine
</span><span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif";color:black">how we support academic researchers throughout the region;

</b>Opeta Alefaio has worked at the National Archives of Fiji since 2004, joining the department after working at the Ministry of Information, and before that commercial radio. He was educated in Fiji and Melbourne, and is currently the Director of the National
