<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">Loss and damage from climate change was for the first time formally recognised under the United Nations Convention on Climate Change, following a strong push from
<span class="m_6479530913674705642apple-converted-space">Small Island Developing States for its inclusion. However,
</span>fearing legal ramifications by developed countries, <span class="m_6479530913674705642apple-converted-space">
the Paris Agreement explicitly excludes any liability and compensation as well as any mandate for funding.
</span></span><span class="m_6479530913674705642apple-converted-space"><u></u><u></u></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:150%"><span class="m_6479530913674705642apple-converted-space"><span style="font-size:12.0pt;line-height:150%;font-family:"Times New Roman",serif">In my project, I will analyse how loss and damage from climate change can be financed and what
 options and mechanisms are currently available. I aim to determine whether these options and mechanisms are suitable for different aspects of loss and damage such as weather-related natural disasters, non-economic losses and forced climate migration. I will
 conduct interviews with United Nations delegates, national government officials and representatives from NGOs to compare the actual needs of small island states with discussions in international negotiations.
