Hi all,

Thankyou again to all those who provided feedback on the options for
preventing cars from accessing the Nth Rd bike path. While most of the
people who responded were in favour of the central rail idea I have been
advised that the design does not comply with standards and cyclist
representative groups, such as Bike Vic, advise against using anything
in the centre of the path. Another option which we are now evaluating is
to install curved rails on the sides of the path (see attached pic of
this design in situ, across the Rd from JCSMR). The curved design makes
the rails more visible and less of an impact barrier for riders. The
spacing of the rails will hopefully be wide enough that they hopefully
won't create a choke point that only allows one bike through at a time.
Pls let me know what you think.

I've arranged a meeting with Security and Grounds to discuss the traffic
management in that area and I'll be advocating a broad strategy that
also involves enforcement and advising drivers of the legal parking
alternatives.

Cheers,

Adam
