Quick update on the Nth Rd bike path issue.
As some of you may already be aware there is a planned conversion of
some of the tennis courts to short-term parking. This plan has been
approved and has been fast-tracked so that work will commence in June.
The new carpark will accessed via a connecting driveway from the end of
the existing carpark. Not necessarily an option that I would've voted
for but I hope that it will divert the cars from using the bike path.
Metal rails beside the path
Grounds will also install some barricades, parallel with the outside
edge of the bike path (rather than in the middle) along the stretch
where the cars have been parking to prevent vehicles from accessing the
grass. The barricades will be beside rather than on the path and won't
result in any obstruction to bikes on the path. They will be installed
at the same time as the carpark
ANU Security have also advised that they will continue to ticket
offending vehicles in the meantime. Personally, I quite like some of
your suggestions, particularly wheel clamping, but I'm not so sure that
Security will be convinced to employ them. Fingers crossed that this
combination of measures will alleviate the problem and we won't have to
consider additional measures.
