Welcome to the brief weekly update from the RSS Infoline, an
accompaniment to the
Student Administrator Practitioners Guide

Department updates


Admissions

*	Admissions is pleased to welcome two new staff members to the
team:  Robyn Britt who is joining us from the team at Burton and Garran
and Julia Pitt-Owen who is moving down from Sydney having worked at the
University of Notre Dame. Robyn will be starting on Monday 29 September
and Julia on Monday 13 October.
*	We have said farewell to Miles Hamilton who is moving on to the
bright lights of Melbourne.  We wish him all the best. 
*	UAC assessors have commenced for all modules now.  The first
offer run for graduate offers is Wednesday 1 October.  Offer runs will
be weekly (on the Wednesday) until the end of November. FARs will be run
regularly and sent out as previously.
*	Students who have deferred their offer to First Semester 2009
will receive an email this week asking them to confirm their intention
to return. They will be directed to an Apollo poll on the deferment
website to do this. They will have until 30 November to confirm that
they will be returning. 
*	The team structure in Admissions has been put in place and seems
to be working well. We welcome any feedback. Please see attached for a
reminder of how we have divided the applications and who you should
contact.
*	Sarah Hawkins will be on leave from 29 September, returning 10
November.  Please contact the Team Coordinators for assistance during
this time

 

Scholarships and Prizes 

Higher Degree Research Scholarships

*	EIPRS scholarship applications have now all been forwarded to
the Colleges.  Date for the finalisation of selection is Mid October
with applicants being notified as soon as possible after this date.

Undergraduate Scholarships

*	Annual bid for the Commonwealth Indigenous Access Scholarships
has been forwarded to DEEWR.  It is expected th at we will receive 20
for 2009.
*	Second round of Commonwealth Scholarship have been finalised
with 4 awards made.

New Scholarships and Prizes
The following scholarships and Prizes have been established or revised
and approved by the University Awards Committee:

New:

*	Fragomen Prize for Migration Law and Practice
*	ANU Medical School ACT Psychiatry Prize
*	Hashem Etiminan Prize for Iranian History and Culture

Revised:

*	Haley Prizes (2 in law and 1 in computer studies)
*	United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Prize for Refugee
Law
*	ANU NICTA PhD Scholarships 2008
*	ANU NICTA PhD International Scholarships 2008
*	Australia-Britain Society Award for Voice
*	ANU Medical School Rural Health Prize Year Four
*	Helen Hughes Master Degree Prize for International and
Development Economics
*	Helen Hughes Graduate Diploma Prize for International and
Development Economics
*	ANU NICTA PhD Completion Scholarships 2008

 

Fees

*	Well as I write this there are only 93 more big sleeps till
Christmas so by the time you read this there will be less. Now that I
have your attention a reminder that once we go live on the 30 September
all invoices will be available to view or download in ISIS. Students
will also be able to print their own receipts from the 30 September
through ISIS also.

 

Timetabling

Examination Timetable:

*	The Draft Examination Timetable for Semester 2 2008 will be
available for comment on the 15th September 2008 (5 pm) until the 26th
September 2008 (5pm).
*	The Final Examination Timetable for Semester 2 2008 will be
published on the 3rd October 2008.

 

Graduations 

*	The Examinations and Graduations Office will be emailing ANU
student email accounts inviting eligible students to participate in
December conferrals in the week beginning the 13th October; only those
students with an inactive ANU email address will receive a hard copy
invitation via post. 
*	Students will have until the 14th November to respond to their
electronic (or hardcopy) invitations.
