<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Due to very high demand the club is running a
third sailing course. The plan is that this week you turn up on Monday
or Wednesday (tonight) for an introduction to rigging and theory. As of next
week the weekday sessions will be on Thursday afternoons and
the Sunday sessions split between the AM and the PM session</FONT><FONT
face=Arial size=2>. If you are interested in a course and could not get on one

Intermediates who have done a beginners course before to come back and
practice their skills. The intention is to run it like a combination between a
refresher course and </FONT><FONT face=Arial size=2>an intermediate course
(trying to get an advanced coach in). Basically you will help out by sailing
with beginners as well as cover advanced topics while the beginners are doing
basic theory. Basically it will include more advanced topics such as spinnakers,
roll tacking / gybing and racing. If you are an intermediate who cannot make it
this week that is ok because this week all that is covered is rigging and basic

weeks ago was so dreadfully wet, let’s try again this

will be there to help with rigging and sailing. Bigger boats available for those
who don’t feel up to lone sailing and require a chauffeur.<BR> <BR>The
Club’ll provide a fine BBQ for us all in the evening. BYO drinkies. Hang
around for this and for all the fun inevitable after a lovely day on the

have a valid student card you can collect your card at any of these

Access. (from Toen Castle)</FONT></STRONG></DIV>
<DIV><BR>I am the club's Boat House officer, and as such I'm responsible for
organising member access to the boat shed. <BR><BR>ANUSC members can use any
boat which they can safely rig and sail . Club members can sail for free on the
general-use boat of their choice (I.e. the 4 Lasers, 2 Tasars, 1 Laser II, and
several windsurfers). Please note that there are also privately owned boats, and
boats restricted for use in races, which are stored in the boat shed. These
boats are not to be used for general sailing.<BR><BR>ANUSC members who can
safely sail (with stamped membership card) can sail for free at any time when
the boat shed is open. The club tries to ensure that this is the case 3-4 times
per week, however the sailing courses currently being run by the club take
priority over general sailing, and so there will be less access for the next few
weeks. You may still be able to sail at these courses if you
contact Michael and are willing to take beginners sailing.<BR><BR>In
addition to these Open Hours (listed below), club members who can safely sail
(stamped membership card) can hire a boat shed key for 1 week, for $5 plus a
refundable $20 deposit.<BR><BR>Members can also take guests sailing, however
there MUST be a ANUSC member on board each boat. The pricing structure for
guests is under review, so please contact me for details (see below), or wait

<DIV><BR><STRONG><FONT size=5>We need YOU!</FONT></STRONG> <BR><BR>To continue
to offer the cheapest sailing in Australia the club needs a range of voluteers.
Without more helpers the quality and quantity of services the club offers will
decrease. The club needs people to help with training courses, organise events,
fix boats and do some of the basic but necessary admin. If you are an
experienced sailor who wants to help with courses email Michael and then turn up
to the courses. <BR><BR>If you are interested in helping out in another way turn
up to the club next Wednesday (tonight) at around 7pm. There will be a short
meeting followed by drinks with the sailing course people.<BR></DIV>
<DIV><BR><FONT size=5><STRONG>Lake Wallagoot (from Grant)</STRONG></FONT></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>This is coastal lake, in a national park, about halfway between Merimbula
and Tathra on the south cost (just west of Bega). It is about 3 hrs from
Canberra via Cooma. There are 4 races over the weekend starting at 11am on
the Saturday.<BR><BR>The racing is very relaxed and informal. The lake is
about 1.5km in diameter and no more than 2m deep. If you don't want to
race but just go sailing come along any way. Accommodation is free and
there is no power (no radios or mobile phones).<BR><BR>I am going down along
with at least 3 other Canberra sharpie crews. A couple of other YMCA boat
come for the fun and one of club members should go home to see mum and dad (who
sail at the club)<BR><BR>If you would like to come, please see me. I may even be
able to organise ride on a sharpie for the weekend.<BR></DIV>
<DIV><BR><STRONG><FONT size=5>Bateman’s Bay Regatta 23-24
April</FONT></STRONG><BR><BR>The traditional end of season regatta for many of
the sailors from Canberra and an annual trip for the ANUSC, this is a great
weekend of competitive sailing on open water. </DIV>
<DIV><STRONG><FONT size=5></FONT></STRONG> </DIV>
<DIV><STRONG><FONT size=5>House Keeping Issues. (from
Grant)<BR><BR></FONT></STRONG>The change rooms are for storing your clothes in
while sailing. Can you<BR>please leave bags and clothes in the
change rooms and not in and around the<BR>bar. It helps people avoid climbing
over them to get to the bar, fridge,<BR>water etc.<BR><BR>When you have the
pleasure of capsize and you come up with a choc top (mud<BR>on the top of the
sail), can you please clean the mast and the sail<BR>afterwards. Otherwise
the mud becomes hard and can not be easily removed.<BR><BR>If you break gear
(which is normal), can you please let me know so that I<BR>can organise to fix
it.<BR><BR>Care of sails and boats. Please don't just throw the sails back
in the<BR>boat.<BR>Laser sails should be folded and placed in the cockpit.
It is not<BR>necessary to untie the mainsheet from either the boom or the
boat.<BR><BR>Tasar sails should all be rolled. The jib (front sail) should
be<BR>rolled from the bottom up, along the wire. The mainsail should be
rolled<BR>along the leach (back edge of the sail) so that the battens are square
with<BR>the roll.<BR> <BR>Foils (rudder, centre board) should always be
placed on the front (leading)<BR>edge or laid flat in the boat.<BR><BR>Always
drain the boats of all water from inside the cockpit and the tanks.<BR>With the
tasars and laser II, this will mean sponging the water out. Water<BR>left
in the boats lead to rotting of the fibre glass.<BR><BR>The important thing is
to keep the boats tidy as you could be the next
