Hi sailors, <br><div><br></div><div>There is a discussion on the boat allocation procedure in the committee, which as I think concerns more the potential regatta participants rather then only committee members. That's why I'm making it public to hear the opinion of interested people rather than just committee members who might not all participate. </div>
<div><br></div><div>1. There is currently no problem with the boat allocation for there were only three people who expressed their interest in the event. Thus, if you're even slightly interested, please, send to me a message or wright your name down here</div>
<div><a href="https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Amzdi8zUl6sxdDN4cDl0aVg0c0Z3VzJiOTRUTnQwSGc&hl=en&authkey=CNbFuYkL">https://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=0Amzdi8zUl6sxdDN4cDl0aVg0c0Z3VzJiOTRUTnQwSGc&hl=en&authkey=CNbFuYkL</a></div>
<div>so that you will be sure that you can get to sail a boat you want and we could see if there is a problem with the number of boats - participants. Don't leave it till the last weekend before the race, for it could be hard to rearrange this things then. </div>
<div>2. Below Jennie proposes three possible ways of boat allocation if there is a problem with it (which currently isn't). </div><div>In my opinion, there is only one boat which makes a difference (Race I). The performance of other boats (provided they have proper control lines) will depend more on the skills of the sailors. I don't mind in-home races with a racing committee and the blood and urine tests of the contestants, or using a hat and so on, but, in my opinion, whatever we do should be done reasonably quick. I think that if people stuck on the stage of dividing the boats too long, they might loose more than if they would just grab a boat and spend more time sailing her, figuring out her potential problems, fixing them and tuning the boat with my help. </div>
<div><br></div><div>I'm saying again we don't have too much time that we could waste. </div><div>In a week we are having a coast trip. </div><div>In two weeks Batemans Bay, which I'm ready to sacrifice to help people preparing their boats for the regatta and provide some more race training.</div>
<div>In three weeks we'll be so loaded with the organisation duties, preparing the shed and so on that we won't have time to deal with the boat allocation let alone in-home races. </div><div><br></div><div>Thus, in my opinion, it would be good if people would know what boat they'll be sailing and could start tuning her and train on this very boat not later than in a week from now. </div>
<div><br></div><div>And last, I was criticised today so loud and endlessly that I'm not sure anymore whether I'm doing right things for the preparation to the regatta. </div><div>I would appreciate, if you could send to me your feedback, so I would understand if I'm wrong or right, and either replenish my energy and will (which I all lost after arguing for a day over a problem which doesn't exist yet) to continue my activity or just shut up and leave it on the people who have better vision on this matter than me. </div>

Dear committee,<br><br>Having had a few issues raised by other members and committee members, we agree that the Australian Uni Regatta should be made open to everyone within ANUSC on an equal and fair basis.<br><br>With this in mind we have been wondering how to fairly allocate boats.<br>
<br>Suggestions so far include: <br><br>1) a series of in-house races - the winner gets first choice of ANU boats and so on down the list<br>2) draw names out of a hat for each boat (assuming people are approved for the boat)<br>
3) people who help Alex re-vamp general use lasers get first choice of their boats<br><br>Please could you submit any other ideas to the committee.<br><br>At the moment we think all students, alumni and members are eligible and we encourage everyone to participate who wants to. We are waiting on the final notice of race availability to have dates confirmed and eligibility. <br>
<br>(According to the constitution) The race committee needs to be formed, this includes: The race secretary (Richard B), The poweboat officer (myself) + 3 others. Alex our captain of boats and Adam our commodore have volunteered. Does anyone else want to volunteer on the race committee? <br>
<br>We are encouraging EVERYONE to participate and we will try and get boats for all those who need them.<br><br>We will have a meeting once the race organisers provide us with the final notice of race availability.<br><br>
Looking forward to hearing from you,<br>please CC our commodore (Adam currently in the bush doing fieldwork and back next week) in on any communications: Adam Leavesley <<a href="mailto:adam.leavesley@anu.edu.au" target="_blank">adam.leavesley@anu.edu.au</a>><br>
