talk: "The Murray River and its tributaries form an immense
inheritance for the Australian nation. When fully developed and
used according to modern science they would maintain a hundred
millions of people in abundance." So wrote J C Kirby in 1919 in
eager support of an irrigated beet sugar industry for the Murray.
Nearly 100 years on, with the rivers fully developed and nary a sugar
beet in sight, do we still have this immense inheritance in the Murray
and its tributaries? What did science contribute in that time,
and what is left for science to do?</font></blockquote>

In this public talk, Dr Sarah Ryan, who leads a large team of
scientists in the Murray program of the</font> <a

aspirations and achievements of people in the Basin, today's
challenges, and the science the flagship is doing to support wise
decisions about this rich inheritance.</font></blockquote>
