ADRIAN WHITEHEAD on "WHY ZERO EMISSIONS?"
Thursday 22nd March (Tomorrow)
4pm Manning Clark Center Theatre 5
At short notice the ANU Zero Emissions Society is proud to present
Adrian Whitehead as the second speaker in our Seminar series this
year.
He was the previous ACT Conservation Council climate change
coordinator and has gone on to start and convene the Australian Zero
Emissions Network (http://www.zeroemissionnetwork.org.au/). He is a
seasoned environmental campaigner with much experience in NGOs. He is
a general expert on predictions about the likely effects of climate
change and is knowledgeable about possible renewable energy futures.
He has devoted most of his recent life to climate change advocacy.
In this seminar he will spend half an hour talking about why we need
to become a net zero emissions society and how we can do it and will
then take questions from the audience for half an hour.
Note that this will conveniently follow two other events that are
likely to be of interest:
*** OTHER EVENTS ***
Senator Bob Brown on How the Greens Can Rescue the Senate - Because Labor Can't
Thursday, 22 March 2007 at 1:00 PM - 1:50 PM
Manning Clark Centre Theatre 1
There are only two possible outcomes for the Federal Senate at the
next Federal election - a Coalition controlled chamber which will
block Labor's reform agenda or the Greens in the balance of power.
Senator Brown will soon lead the Senate's third largest party.
How to Get Involved in Real-Life Environmental Management at ANU

Manning Clarke C T 2
Change of time (due to a presentation by Bob Brown in MCC 1 at 1pm).
See Bob and then learn how you can put your environmental initiative
into practice at the ANU. In this event, students will find out how to
link involvement in environmental issues to university assessment,
what real life student projects are available, and meet the
environmental groups operating on campus.
*** NEW ZEALAND TO GO CARBON NEUTRAL ***
New Zealand is going to become the world's first Zero Emissions nation
according to its Prime Minister Helen Clark
"In her first major speech to Parliament for 2007, Prime Minister
Helen Clark likened the threat of climate change to that of nuclear
holocaust during the Cold War, and said New Zealand must lead the way
in combatting it.
"I believe New Zealand can aim to be the first nation to be truly
sustainable across the four pillars of the economy, society, the
environment, and nationhood," Clark said. "I believe we can aspire to
be carbon neutral in our economy and way of life."
