Dear Zero Emissions Society Announcements list,

We will be having a fortnightly meeting next Monday the 14th, so I
hope as many people as possible will be able to attend.

For those who couldn't make the presentation by Clive Hamilton
yesterday it should soon be available as a downloadable MP3 from here:
http://info.anu.edu.au/Discover_ANU/News_and_Events/Public_Lectures/Podcasts.asp

There are many other lectures available on that page which may be of
interest, including
AN ARCHITECTURE FOR INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION ON CLIMATE CHANGE from
Professor Warwick McKibbin for those who are willing to wade into some
quite involved economic waters.

As many of you know, News Corp, under the instruction of Rupert
Murdoch is now planning to go carbon neutral, or 'net zero emissions'
by 2010 and weave information about the 'clear catastrophic threat'
into its news reporting. It's great that Murdoch has realised the
extent of the threat we face - we're going to need all the friends we
can get!

***CLIMATE CHANGE ANU and UC INTERGROUP MEETING***

We have been invited to attend a meeting of all groups in Canberra
engaging in climate change related activities. A few representatives
will be attending for the Zero Emissions Society and everyone is
encouraged to come along if they have anything to contribute to the
meeting.

Here is the invitation from the ANUSA Environment Collective's Rebecca Norman:

"ANU Zero Emmissions is invited to a Spokescouncil on the 15th
May in the ANUSA meeting room at 5pm.

The ANUSA Environment Collective will be hosting this meeting for all of the
environmental and youth activism groups on the ANU campus, as well as from
UC and around Canberra.

The aim of this meeting is to establish a communication between all the
various and wonderful Environmental and Youth Activism groups on campus
and throughout Canberra and to establish a regular time where
representatives of the groups can sit down and share what they are
achieving now and what they hope to achieve in the future.

These meetings will provide a way for groups to develop campaigns and
actions together, ideally sharing resources and resulting in a stronger,
more unified student voice.

Items to be raised at the meeting include:

1. The Next meeting:
Developing a framework and a time for regular meetings to take place.
2. Publication.
The production of a regular and common publication such as a zine to which
each group can lend their voice to.
3. Communication.
Sharing with everyone your group's short and long term goals and perhaps
realising that we can help each other out to make a difference.

With so many passionate activist groups in Canberra we can achieve amazing
unified actions.

If a representative cannot make this first meeting but your group is still
interested in getting involved then please contact me.

Please also feel free to contact me if you would like more information
about the first Spokescouncil meeting.
