Sustainable House Day - Sunday Sept 14th

It's that time of year again - Sustainable House Day is coming up and we are
looking for volunteers! So whether it's you first time volunteering for the
cause or you're a seasoned volunteer, contact Karen  kada at netspeed.com.au,
text 0406 272 299 or phone 6295 7295 to volunteer for 3 hours on Sunday
September 14th.

Sustainable House Day (SHD) showcases houses that are designed or
retrofitted to minimise their energy consumption for heating & cooling, as
well as having photovoltaics, solar hot water, grey water or other
sustainable features. (See

for a sample of the ACT venues on display this year.)

What better way to see these principles in action than to volunteer for
Sustainable House Day 2008? Volunteers get free admission to the weekend!!!

We require volunteers for 3 hours on Sunday 14th September. Volunteers will
have free access to the sustainable schools and businesses on show on
Saturday 13th, as well as the 12 houses on display on the Sunday.

We require volunteers to sell tickets for the event at each house on Sunday
14th September, or even explain the working principles of the house if you
feel really confident  (the schools and businesses provide their own
volunteers).  Everything will be supplied and volunteers will be trained
before the weekend.

7295 to confirm participation in SHD 2008 as a volunteer.  The weekend is a
wonderful opportunity to make new friends and to contribute to the
sustainable energy community through the Australian New Zealand Solar Energy
Society, ANZSES.   It is always enjoyable and an excellent opportunity to
learn about retrofitting or redeveloping one's home and workplace to be more
sustainable. So how about it?  Please contact Karen and volunteer your

The LAUNCH of the ACT GREENGUIDE, GREENMAP and ENVIRONMENT COLLECTIVE
WEBSITE

On Wednesday 27th August, 1PM at Vivaldi's, Union Court, ANU, the online ACT
GreenGuide and GreenMap will be informally launched. The GreenGuide,
developed by the ANU Environment Collective, provides a directory of
organisations as well as advice to help Canberrans make sustainable choices
in their daily lives. It includes a GreenMap of where in Canberra to access
these organisations and services. Access the GreenGuide at
http://act.greenguide.net.au .

Contributors to the site are also welcome!

If you wish to attend the launch, please RSVP to enviro.collective at anu.edu.au
by close of business Friday August 22 for catering purposes.

The new Environment Collective website will also be launched at this event.
Access this website at http://www.anuec.org.au . It includes an 'ANU Green
Network' calendar, intended for use by all environment groups at the ANU.
