Before it has even reached the international negotiations at Poznan,
the government has backed down on its commitment to set an emissions
reduction target.
We know that the majority of Australians want strong action on climate
change. But they won’t know unless you tell them.
Walk Against Warming this year for strong, short term emissions
reductions targets, a shift to renewable energy, and a light rail
network for Canberra!
THIS SATURDAY, 6th December
11.30am
City Walk (near the fountain)
Speakers:
Julia Collin: Young Australian of the Year Finalist for 2008
Dr Richard Denniss: Executive Director The Australia Institute
Music:
The Camals
Ruth & Alan
* Light Rail for Canberra
* A Renewable Energy future
* Strong Commitments at Poznan for deep cuts in emissions
Last year, record numbers of Canberrans from all walks of life joined
the Conservation Council to make the 2007 Walk Against Warming
Canberra’s biggest ever climate change rally. Two weeks later, we had
a new Federal Government, and within a month, Australia had signed the
Kyoto Protocol. This year the need for action is even greater.
There's still a chance to be involved in the Walk! If you can
volunteer please contact Genevieve at campaign(@)consact.org.au or
6229 6208, or Robyn: communications(@)consact.org.au
Volunteers for the Walk Against Warming will have lunch on the day on us
And if you haven't yet promoted the walk to your email lists,
networks, friends, relatives, work-mates and grandparents - do it now!
